Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Recorder's Training sign-up by March 15th?

    Those of you who are on the Taos Archaeological Society e-mail notice list should have received the announcement of the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Recorders Training (copied below). Would anyone else be interested in signing up for the Training with me? We could car pool? - Mark --------- Hi Everyone! Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project is offering a petroglyph recorders' training class on March 27. The attached flyer gives an overview and expectations for taking the class. A number of SFNF Site Stewards have trained and are active with the recording groups on Mesa Prieta. Currently, six teams are working on a 6000 acre parcel of private land; the hope is that three to four more teams can be trained and oriented to the field work. MESA PRIETA PETROGLYPH PROJECT PETROGLYPH RECORDER TRAINING SATURDAY MARCH 27, 2010 9:30-5 @ THE WELLS PETROGLYPH PRESERVE PRACTICE FIELD DAYS SUNDAY, MARCH 28, TWO OTHERS TO FOLLOW CLASS IS RESTRICTED TO 12 PARTICIPANTS Expectations: ï‚·ï€ MPPP requests that volunteers record on the Mesa a minimum of one day a month, weather permitting. ï‚·ï€ Pre-study packets will be sent to volunteers prior to the class. ï‚·ï€ Volunteers are required to attend two practice days prior to being assigned to a team. ï‚·ï€ Volunteers sign a liability waiver and agree to respect private land owners property rights. ï‚·ï€ Volunteers may take photographs for personal use but agree not to use photographs taken on Mesa Prieta for publication, public presentations or profit. ï‚·ï€ Volunteers agree not to take guests or animals on the mesa nor to disclose locational information about the resources on the mesa. Mesa Prieta is a 12 mile long mesa with an estimated 30,000 petroglyphs and otherarchaeological features. The mesa is a rugged geological structure with few roads. Volunteers must bestrong hikers and capable of working in rough terrain and sometimes on high boulders. MPPP provides all the required equipment to record petroglyphs. Volunteers are trained in state of the art, scientific recording of petroglyphs and other heritage resources. Volunteers work in teams in assigned areas. Once trained, teams select their own schedule to record on the Mesa.
