Happy Ground Hog and Treaty (of Guadalupe Hidalgo) Day -With apologies for the short notice. Even though the prediction is "dull and dreary" for Thursday February 4th, a core group of Mark Henderson, Steve Mahan and Gary Swinford plan on visiting TV12 (to see if there is a sunrise interaction at the winter cross-quarter, and if not too icy up-slope, to determine where the "shadow caster" on winter solstice is) and secondly to visit TV13 (to take photos of this well visited site on the Vista Verde Trail for possible use in a Taos News Visitor Guide article). In order to achieve the first objective (if possible) we will need to be at TV12 by sunrise which should occur about 9:15 am in the Canyon floor, so we will meet, carpool and leave from the KTAO Solar Center Parking area adjacent to the Old Blinking Light at 8 am. After sunrise on the TV12 boulder (if we can tell through the clouds) we (those so inclined) will scramble upslope, if not too icy, to see if we can determine the shadow caster location. We will then drive to the Vista Verde Trailhead and hike in to TV13 (about 3/4ths mile) to try to get some photos suitable for publicity on rock art stewardship (the predicted clouds may actually be to our benefit for this task). Expect to start return to Taos around 1 pm arriving back at OBL about 2pm (so bring warm clothes, warm, posi-traction boots, water and lunch). Call Mark at 575-758-3192 if you have questions, or expect to join us.

Due to cloudy skies, icy roads and trails, the cross-quarter trip is cancelled today. Will try again on next predicted sunny day or when the Vista Verde trail might be clear of ice.- Mark
