Southern Colorado Archaeological Sites

Sept 21 -> 25, 2010

Visit Chimney Rock Archaeological Site for the Autumnal Equinox tour, spend an evening at Pagosa Springs for dinner and/or spa time, visit Crow Canyon for a very special tour of their research laboratory, plus a visit to their working dig at Hovenweep.  End the trip with a half-day tour of Ute Mountain Tribal Park.

  • Tuesday, Sept. 21:  Travel to Pagosa Springs, explore the town and have dinner with others on the trip. 
  • Wednesday, Sept 22:  Sunrise at Chimney Rock ($15 per person).  
  • Thursday, Sept 23: Full day tour of Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, including lab tour, lunch and the Goodman Point unit of Hovenweep excavation ($50 per person).  
  • Friday, Sept 24:  Morning: Ute Mountain half day tour ($28 per person), ending at 12:30.  Lunch in Cortez, visit the Anasazi cultural center north of Cortez in the afternoon.
  • Saturday, Sept 25:  End of official trip, return to Taos or explore Mesa Verde, Chaco, or anything else in the Four Corners area that you'd like to visit.  It's been highly recommended that anyone of this trip take the time to visit Lowry Pueblo Ruins, 27 miles from Cortez.  Check out the "Lowry Pueblo Ruins" link below for more information about this very interesting and easy to get to site.
